An amber jar candle you can burn or warm
This is the plain version done properly: an amber glass jar, soy wax, one wick, a kraft paper label and a silver screw lid. Light it and it behaves like any other scented candle jar. Set it under a candle warmer lamp instead and the bulb melts the top layer from above, so you get the same scent with no flame, no smoke, and a wick that never gets touched. That second option is why this jar sits beside the warmer lamps on this site rather than off on a shelf of its own.
What you get in this soy wax jar candle
- Amber glass, straight sides. A soy candle jar with a screw neck and a wide mouth, wide enough to wipe clean once the wax is gone.
- A candle jar with lid, not a loose disc. The silver soy candle tin lid screws down over a kraft top and keeps dust off the wax between evenings.
- Two sizes. 400 g small and 450 g medium, both sitting at the large soy candles end of the shelf rather than the tealight end.
- Soy wax, and only what we can source. The supplier specifies soy. We do not publish a full ingredient list, and we do not make non toxic home fragrance claims we cannot stand behind.
- Warm it or burn it. Under a GODONLIF candle warmer lamp the bulb melts the top layer from above, so a candle for gifts can run with no flame at all.
Beautiful candles usually announce themselves with a scent name and a price tag; this one does it with glass. Amber glass and a kraft label are what separate the best candle gifts from the ones that sit in a drawer: there is no colour scheme to match and nothing about it that dates. Ask ten people for the best candle for gifts and you get ten scent opinions; ask what the jar should look like and they converge on something close to this. It turns up on candle lovers gifts round-ups and on nice candle gifts lists alike. Among beautiful candle gifts it is the least loud one in the room. That is exactly what you want for candle sympathy gifts, and it is what a novelty jar ruins about thank you candle gifts. We stock soy candles for gifts in two sizes for the same reason: one to give and one to keep. And if you are shopping gifts for the candle lover who already owns everything scented, buy the medium and a warmer lamp to set it under.
Frequently asked questions
Are soy candles safe for dogs?
We do not make pet-safety claims for this candle, and you should not trust a product page that does. What we can say is practical: a lit candle is an open flame at nose height for a curious dog, so keep it high, keep the room ventilated, and never leave it burning unattended. If the dog is why you are asking, warm the jar on a candle warmer lamp instead, because there is no flame at any point. For sensitivity questions, ask your vet.
Why do some people say soy candles are bad?
Two arguments usually come up: how soy is farmed, and blends sold as soy that are mostly something else. We can only answer the second one, and only as far as our supplier states it. This candle is specified as soy wax, and that specification is what we publish. We do not claim single-origin soy, a fragrance breakdown or a burn time, because we have not been given those numbers.
What is the difference between soy wax and paraffin wax candles?
Source, mostly. Soy wax is pressed from soybean oil; paraffin is refined from petroleum. Soy also softens at a lower temperature, which is the practical reason soy candles are the usual pick for a candle warmer lamp: the top layer melts from the bulb above without an open flame. Everything past that depends on the fragrance load and the wick rather than on the name of the wax.
